What liberal bias?
I was reading the news today when I came across this blatantly biased picture of Karl Rove and it really rubbed me the wrong way how the media keeps slanting the news in subtle ways like this. It’s happened way too often, especially in the past few years, to be a coincidence. The mainstream media IS biased.
But not like I thought. Apparently, I’ve had it wrong all along.
See, the mainstream media is in bed with Republicans.
Yep, you read that right. Despite what you may have previously heard, the media are nothing but a mouthpiece for the Bush administration, distorting the facts and allowing the right wing to spread their lies.
Nevermind the fact that the overwhelming majority of those in the media identify themselves as liberal or Democrat, they’re nothing but lapdogs for the conservatives.
The folks at DailyKos understand the media’s right wing bias. Being such a bastion of “progressive” thought, there was a post on this very subject just a few days ago. No really, there was!
The underlying point of this piece — that major democratic candidates (and even Presidents) of the past several years have received coverage by different standards than republican candidates (and Presidents) — is correct, and critical.
Well, he’s partly correct. But not in the manner he believes.
[T]hose commenters — and there are many on many different sites — that take the view that this is all purposeful because “the refs work for the other side” exhibit a defeatist attitude that has a lot to do with why the other side has been able to so successfully mischaracterize both democrats and the issues the past few years.
Yep, that’s it. Democrat journalists are bound and determined to distort the truth so that the candidates who hold the same beliefs they do will be blocked from public office. Democrat journalists want Republicans to win. Hrmm, that makes perfect sense!
First, most journalists are democrats (even if this is become less and less so, as the line between rigourous journalism, punditry, and entertainment all continue to blur). Lazy logic leads most experts, even, to conclude the the media is thus “liberally biased.”
Do you see the brilliance in this? There’s no way anyone could believe the media is slanted toward liberals! Only “lazy logic” would lead someone to think that! Nevermind all the proof, it’s still “lazy logic!”
Maybe most journalists are democrats because most jounalists know the facts, and the fact is, most people are democrats who have been bamboozled into thinking that they are republicans, because they have been misinformed.”
More brilliance. The Democrats have all the facts and therefore, when one knows all the facts one becomes a Democrat. If one is a Republican, it is because one is too stupid or simply doesn’t have a grip on the facts in order to ascend to the ranks of the Democrat party.
More importantly, if a story comes out that simply tells the facts, and these facts support the democrats, and not the republicans, it is easy (if illogical) to argue, and “show” bias because the story has appeared to favor, and thus be biased towards, democrats.
Yeah, they’re just telling the facts.
And those facts just happen to support Democrats. What a co-inky-dink!
Yeah, that’s it. There aren’t many examples of liberal bias in the media. It’s just more “lazy logic.”
There’s no bias here.
Nope. No liberal bias.
No liberal bias at all.
I don’t see any liberal bias.
It’s not like there’s any kind of pattern one could pick up on.
Nosirreeee. There can’t possibly be liberal bias when there’s talk radio, Fox News, and the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal overpowering CBS, NBC, ABC, The New York Times, National Public Radio, The Washington Post, Newsweek, U.S. News, Time, Reuters, the Associated Press, CNN, and MSNBC.
Nope, no liberal bias. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for. You can go about your business. Move along.
[A]nd until democrats learn to effectively and continually make this case as often and as consistently as republicans, this trend will continue.
Unfortunately this is true.
Wait, strike that, reverse it.
