Yo ho ho and all that crap
Yesterday ’twas the day traci and I went to Scarborough Faire again. Only this time with our friends. And in costume. Pirate costumes at that.
Arrrg.
I’ve been working on building a costume for renfair and Halloween use, and have gotten it at least to the point where I have pants, shirt, boots and a few minor other elements to make it more pirate-y. I still need a good hat, a doublet, and of course, a cutlass. But I had enough to wear. traci, however, hadn’t bought anything yet. Luckily, we found a shoppe where she and our friend Chris were both able to try on a few items.
First, lemme just say, “Thank you, God, for whoever came up with the idea for the women’s bodice!”
See?
Once traci and Chris were hoisted into position and tied appropriately, it was truly a feast for the eyes. An early-in-the-week peek! Even our friend, Jason (who is gay – not that there’s anything wrong with that) remarked that he’s turning straight with all this cleavage around!
Much of the day was spent looking in merchants’ booths and examining pieces to add to our costumes. And eating. There’s always plenty of food to go medieval on your arteries.
One of the highlights of the day were two roving guys dressed in German Renaissance garb, claiming to be rappers “from da East side… of Berlin!” Basically it was like Hans & Franz mixed with Eminem, freestyle rapping to the crowd. Beeee-zarre. But our kind of beeeezarre.
Unfortunately, my friend, Dan (Chris’ husband) was unable to join us. That was a particular downer because he’s really into history and I was looking forward to his perspective on all the various costume inaccuracies and such. Not to mention, just plain hamming it up in costume ourselves. Oh well, there’s Halloween coming up and, of course, next year’s faire.
Now I just have to work on the cheesy accent…
