Honest blogger quiz
I don’t often do these kinda posts, but saw this one over at the busblog on Monday and thought I’d give it a go (I wanted to post this on Monday but needed time to research some political candidates). These questions are definitely slanted, but I think it’s still interesting and may give you new readers here a better idea of where I stand on a few things:
1. Which political party do you typically agree with? Libertarian
2. Which political party do you typically vote for? Republican
3. List the last six presidents that you voted for? Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, (was slightly too young for this last one, but would have voted Reagan)
4. Which party do you think is smarter about the economy? Republicans (but their current out-of-control spending looks more like the Democrats)
5. Which party do you think is smarter about domestic affairs? Libertarian
6. Do you think we should keep our troops in Iraq or pull them out? Keep them in Iraq until the Iraqi army has taken over security of the country and the officials of Iraq are ready to take over the administration and infrastructure of the nation.
7. Who, or what country, do you think is most responsible for 9/11? Osama Bin Laden, Saudi Arabia, and Al Qaeda
8. Do you think we will find weapons of mass destruction in iraq? No, I think all Saddam’s WMD’s were successfully moved to Syria in the maddeningly slow buildup to our assault
9. Yes or no, should the U.S. legalize marijuana? Yes
10. Do you think the Republicans stole the last presidental election? You gotta be kidding me with that question. No, they didn’t steal the election, either in 2000 or 2004. In fact, it’s been shown that there was even more voter fraud and chicanery on the part of the Democrat party!
11. Do you think Bill Clinton should have been impeached because of what he did with Monica Lewinski? Nope, and that is an intellectually and politically dishonest question because that’s NOT why Bill Clinton was impeached. Clinton was justly impeached for perjury and obstruction of justice, which were the actual charges brought against him and for which he WAS impeached in the House and acquitted by the Senate.
12. Do you think Hillary Clinton would make a good president? Nope. Her stance on the issues isn’t THAT bad. But she’s a kook with too many Socialist ideas. And I think she’s a brilliant megalomaniac that I’d prefer not to see in the White House ever again.
13. Name a current Democrat who would make a great president: I can’t think of any Democrats who would make a great President, beause I think their ideas have degraded the fabric of our nation. But of the current crop of possible Democrat candidates, I’d say Iowa gov. Tom Vilsack or NC governor Mike Easley may be decent if they stick to their convictions and don’t tow the Democrat party line.
14. Name a current Republican who would make a great president: It depends on who runs, of course. But Chuck Hagel or George Allen look good to me so far. And I’m intrigued with the idea of Condoleeza Rice as our first female President, but would like to know more of her positions.
15. Do you think that women should have the right to have an abortion? Is there ever a “right” to infanticide? I disagree with abortion, obviously, and think it’s abhorrent the way it’s currently used: as birth control. If at all, it should only be used in cases of rape, incest, or saving the life of the mother. This issue is far more complicated than either pro-abortion or pro-life sides want you to believe.
16. What religion are you? I dislike religion because I think it’s too often a cheap substitute for an actual relationship with God, but essentially I’m a non-practicing/”backslidden” Christian.
17. Have you read the Bible all the way through? Yes, twice
18. What’s your favorite book? 1984 by George Orwell
19. Who is your favorite band? Metallica
20. Who do you think you’ll vote for president in the next election? Depends on who runs. See answers above…
21. Do you think President Bush should be impeached for domestic spying? No, because he’s conducting a LEGAL program of monitoring foreign terrorists and those who interact with them inside our borders, NOT spying on average citizens, as the Democrats would have you believe.
22. Do you think President Bush should be censured for okaying the leak that led to outing a CIA agent? Nope. The President, and those he appoints, have the power to decide what is and what is not classified information. But Plame’s identity wasn’t considered classified nor sensitive at the time Richard Armitage told Bob Woodward of her role in Joe WIlson’s trip. This whole thing is a non-issue.
23. Do you think it was a coincidence that gasoline prices have nearly tripled and oil company profits have hit record highs while there was a US President whose family made its fortune through oil? It’s ridiculous to think that Bush can somehow manipulate the entire world’s oil prices for his own benefit.
24. Do you think President Bush is the worst US President ever? and if not, who is? Not even close (although he may wind up being in the bottom ten percent). Saying that Bush is the “worst” is to overlook history in favor of partisan rancor. I’m no fan of Bush, to be sure. The guy continues to make me wince: I’ve got issues with many things he’s said and done. But he doesn’t deserve as much ire as is being heaped upon him. IMO, James Buchanan still holds the post of “worst president” for allowing the South to secede and plunging our country into The Civil War. Warren Harding takes a close second, who mangled English at least as badly as Bush and whose corrupt administration was filled with so much scandal and infidelity that it makes Bill Clinton almost seem… well, I’ll just leave that there. Want a more recent example? Just think back a few years to the Carter administration.
25. What website did you see this on first? tonypierce.com
Before you vote, either this year or in 2008 (or in any election, for that matter), take some time to analyze the issues and find a candidate whose positions are closest to yours – especially on whatever your hotbutton issue happens to be. There’s a good quiz here that might help you clarify what you think and believe. And whatever your positions, hold them because they’re what YOU think, not because it’s what some politician or political party tells you.
