Some good news. And what a coincidence that the Associated Press just happened to be there to take pictures! (h/t: LGF, Six Meat Buffet) Four Palestinians were killed near the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahiya on Monday night and six others were wounded when the IAF fired a missile at them from a helicopter flying overhead, Palestinian sources said. The incident was a result of a joint operation between the IAF and IDF special forces, entering deep into the Gaza Strip for the first time since the disengagement from the Gaza Strip last summer. Israel Radio quoted Palestinian sources as saying that among the wounded were two journalists and an ambulance driver. The IDF positively confirmed that the...

Haditha: jackpot for the antiwar Left

I’ve been following the events of the past few days with a mix of disgust and shock. I’m ashamed at the thought of American Marines possibly shooting innocent women and children in Haditha (you can read some perspective on Haditha here). And I’m even more surprised to find so many on the Left willing to not only believe it, but are tripping over themselves in their rush to judgement as well as spraining their shoulders while they try to pat themselves on the back for their opposition of the war. As if this alleged event justifies their calls for early withdrawl. They’ve been anxiously awaiting this war’s My Lai, and now it appears they may have it. I’m still...

Yo ho ho and all that crap

Yesterday ’twas the day traci and I went to Scarborough Faire again. Only this time with our friends. And in costume. Pirate costumes at that. Arrrg. I’ve been working on building a costume for renfair and Halloween use, and have gotten it at least to the point where I have pants, shirt, boots and a few minor other elements to make it more pirate-y. I still need a good hat, a doublet, and of course, a cutlass. But I had enough to wear. traci, however, hadn’t bought anything yet. Luckily, we found a shoppe where she and our friend Chris were both able to try on a few items. First, lemme just say, “Thank you, God, for whoever came...

Happy Memorial Day

Posted 29 May 2006 in military, patriotism, victory, war

On a day which means so much to me, I find it unusually hard this year to write the words to adequately express my feeling of gratitude toward all the American soldiers who have fallen in defense of our freedom. Blackfive, however, put it quite succinctly. From the War of Independence to the War on Terror, from the open field to battles away from publicity’s light — remember this day all who have made the ultimate sacrifice, for freedom is never free. Take a moment away from today’s celebrations, put your hand over your heart, and whisper a prayer of thanks for the men and women who fought and gave their lives so that we can remain free today.—Several...

A step in the right direction

Since President Bush still isn’t doing nearly enough, the Minutemen are continuing to take responsibility for guarding our southern border. This time, by building a fence along private property along the Arizona border: (h/t: Michelle Malkin) Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”), today announced plans by the MCDC to work with local Arizona land owners to build border security fencing on private land along the border with Mexico. At present, six private land owners have partnered with the Minutemen for the commencement of construction of border fencing on their land. Surveillance cameras on the fencing will be monitored via computer by registered Minutemen across the country. We have chosen a fence design that is based...

Today was already so full of real-life goodness, I barely had time to even look at the computer, let alone blog. This is my weekend with the kids. And since I’m off from work, I went ahead and picked them up last night so we could have some more time together. And today, we’ve spent most of the day getting ready for Katie’s high school graduation, which happens tomorrow. First, we went through a bunch of pictures with her so she can decorate for her graduation party with plenty of pics from when she was growing up. Then I had to go out and get presents from her grandparents and me (remember the little issue I had with my...

Why it’s so easy to be a Liberal

Posted 25 May 2006 in Democrats, environment, intolerance, liberals

For a while now, I’ve wanted to write a post based not simply in the headlines of the week, but in the larger issues facing our society. Well, I’m gonna have to start over again, because I found a brilliant one over at All Things Beautiful that takes the words right outta my mouth (and my “Create Post” screen)… As I have now joined the elite ranks of anti-idiotarian bloggers who have been labeled “Nazis” for having the temerity to identify Islamofascists as the true heirs of the Third Reich, and a racist, a xenophobe, as well as of course an Islamophobe, for daring to be in favor of preserving our sovereignty free of Shari’a oppression, and a bellicose...

LOST season 2 finale!!

Posted 25 May 2006 in pop culture

OMG, did y’all see Lost last night? It continues to amaze me, just how detailed and convoluted this storyline is. I was happy to see that my theory may be correct that the electomagnet device was responsible for the downing of the plane. But even so, there are a multitude of connctions between characters to resolve and new questions to be answered. In the meantime, here are a few tidbits to gnaw on until next season… • The people in the tent playing chess were speaking Portugese. • One of the people in the tent looked a hell of a lot like Jack. • There was a major tie to The Odyessy, with Desmond as Ulysses and Penny as...

Honest blogger quiz

I don’t often do these kinda posts, but saw this one over at the busblog on Monday and thought I’d give it a go (I wanted to post this on Monday but needed time to research some political candidates). These questions are definitely slanted, but I think it’s still interesting and may give you new readers here a better idea of where I stand on a few things: 1. Which political party do you typically agree with? Libertarian 2. Which political party do you typically vote for? Republican 3. List the last six presidents that you voted for? Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, (was slightly too young for this last one, but would have voted Reagan) 4. Which party...

A penny for your thoughts, a nickel for your standards

From the “Stuck on Stupid” files: A local Dallas area school has gotten themselves in some hot water over their decision to mask out the words “In God We Trust” from the cover of their annual yearbook. (h/t: Michelle Malkin) The freedom of religion at Liberty Elementary School has gone too far for some parents at the Colleyville school. The cover of the Keller ISD school’s annual depicts the 2005 Liberty Nickel – complete with the face of Thomas Jefferson – but the words “In God We Trust” are missing. Instead, the $16 yearbook contains a sticker with the credo and directions on how to apply it to the cover if the owner chooses. Debbi Ackerman was one of...
