Gun control means using both hands
Dallas Mayor Laura Miller joined the mayors of more than a dozen U.S. cities for a “summit” on gun violence.
Personally, I don’t see why they don’t simply tackle the issue of violence. But then, that ignores the way politicians tend to act. Ignore the real problem, and just make it look like you’re doing something so you can get re-elected.
These politicians won’t take a stand on illegal immigrants, but wanna go after supposedly illegal firearms: a convenient target that doesn’t have the same touchy nature as the whole illegal immigration issue.
Ok, fine. They did manage to do something right: they all agreed to do their jobs.
The resolution signed by the mayors promises to punish criminals to the maximum extent of the law for gun crimes and to target gun dealers who break the law.
Pardon me, but DUH! Punish criminals, now there’s a breakthrough! Glad they all got together to decide that.
Their other solution to gun violence (at least here in Dallas): another gun buy-back program.
These lame programs are aimed at “taking guns off the street,” as if that will take guns out of the hands that use them in crimes. News flash: the bad guys already HAVE guns. Offering $100 apiece won’t tempt even the most drug-addled criminal into giving up his firearm. All it does is give politicians a photo-op where they can say “We’re making an effort to make our streets safer.” With the idea that less guns equals less crime.
Not only does that idea fly in the face of statistics, it shows an appalling lack of insight into human nature as well as the criminal mind. And if that’s the consensus of these mayors, one wonders how they could be fit to lead the cities they represent.
