Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
I tried blogging all day today but didn’t have enough time because of work. Ah, priorities.
After dinner with my kids tonight, I watched the inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on VH1. What a contrast of cool and suck!
Shirley Manson did the intro for Blondie to be inducted. Now, I’ve heard of the band Garbage before. I’ve even heard of Shirley Manson. But I had never seen her until tonight. And damn, was she cute! I love that accent. But I had a big problem with allowing Blondie into the Hall ‘o Fame. First off, putting Blondie into the Hall Of Fame is all fine and dandy. But not when we’ve still got major bands like Kiss that have done it better and for a longer time and still haven’t been honored. Then add to that the fact that Debbie Harry couldn’t be decent enough to allow her original band to play with her on stage (even though they were also being inducted since they were the band that EARNED the honor alongside her). Beeee-yotch.
I have no idea why they inducted Miles Davis. The guy is an unbelievably talented trumpet player, but he played Jazz and Blues, not Rock & Roll.
Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield did a very touching intro for Black Sabbath. It seems a no-brainer that Black Sabbath should have been honored about 20 years ago. But for some reason, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame never asks me who I think should be inducted. Oh well. Metallica did a rendition of “Iron Man” and kicked some major ass (of course).
Then they had Kid Rock introduce Lynyrd Skynyrd. How these guys haven’t been in the HoF until know is beyond me. Still, it was very cool seeing Kid Rock singin’ “Sweet Home Alabama” with the boys who created Southern Rock.
