Listening for the Islamic voice of reason

Leave it to Steph, a recent regular poster here, to point out that many Muslims ARE denouncing all the violence being perpetrated in the name of Islam.

If you want the moderate Muslims to speak out against the violence…if you want them to denounce the acts of the extremists and take action against it…if you want them to have an effect on the violence that is repeatedly spiraling out of control throughout the world…then you have to stop, listen and pay attention. They’re there doing exactly what they should be doing; they’re just being drowned out by all the shrill voices from both sides and your voice just might be one of them!

Read her entire post, she shows and links to several examples of individuals and organizations speaking out against all the crazies destroying and killing in the name of Islam. Granted, it looks like those speaking words of tolerance and healing are in the minority (e.g. Britain’s peaceful public demonstration of 5,000 as opposed to the violent Pakistani rioters who reportedly numbered as many as 70,000). But it’s a start.

Now all we need is for the other 1.6 billion Muslims to choose a side.
