In today’s newspaper, I saw several “new” photos from Abu Ghraib. They originated with the Australian network SBS, but have been picked up by CNN, Reuters, and many other American media outlets. And they appear to be photos taken during the same time frame as the Abu Ghraib pictures we’ve seen before. Set your Wayback Machine, that was back in April of 2004. If they’re actually new pictures, that’s one thing. But it doesn’t sound like that’s the case. This story is almost 2 years old, and those involved have already been punished (dishonorably discharged and sent to jail), so what purpose could our mainstream media have for airing these additional photos now? Hrmmmm?

Think about how American media is going out of its way to act all “sensitive” to Islam, either refusing to show the cartoons or blurring them out to avoid offending Muslims. Yet they’re all too eager to get back on the Abu Ghraib scandal train again.

Rightwinged brings up an interesting point:

“Why is the media so giddy over new Abu Graib photos, but they have never shown us the photos of people jumping from the WTC buildings on 9/11 (graphic images). Of course I don’t think these should be shown out of respect to those who died, and their families. But the media doesn’t seem to concerned about military men and women and their families when they show the pointless Abu Graib photos.

So lets see, you won’t show the Muhammad cartoons because that is “incitement” (remember being that the media is a liberal one, they have no concept of “personal responsibility”). I can’t stand that “incitement” or “provocation” excuse, but that’s what they use to excuse bad behavior all the time. Anyway, why are the Abu Ghraib photos not incitement as well? And 9/11 jumper photos aren’t going to incite the Muslim world. And we’re civilized so it won’t incite us, but might strengthen a weakening resolve.”

Could it be that they publish these Abu Ghraib photos, and not the Mohammed cartoons, because the former brings Islamic ire against the American military and President Bush, while the latter brings the fury against the media themselves?
