Parking pet peeve

Before I launch into the week’s issues (or non-issues, like Alito’s confirmation), I have to get something off my chest.

Regular people who park in handicapped spaces should be bashed in the leg with a crowbar. Or at least shocked with a taser until they lose bladder control.

bynes_handicap.jpgThe pics in today’s post illustrate one of my greatest pet peeves: regular folks who park in spaces reserved for the handicapped. In these pics, we see Hollywood celebs Kirsten Dunst and Amanda Bynes exhibiting their selfishness by utilizing parking spaces legally reserved for people with physical limitations. But such appalling hubris is not confined to the rich and cultural elite.

In the parking lot of my apartment complex, there are three parking options. One can rent a garage, a space covered by a carport, or simply park in the regular outdoor spaces available throughout the complex. And, of course, in front of each building there are two specially-marked spaces for handicapped drivers: one for the car or van and the second space is lined off to provide enough space for a wheelchair lift.

Well, it would be for handicapped drivers if selfish assholes wouldn’t keep parking in both the spaces.

There are two individuals who seem to think these spaces belong to them. Both are young women, approximately 20-30 years of age, in good health (at least they look fit and seem to have no difficulty walking). Their cars and license plates bear no special symbols, nor does their rear view mirror display a handicapped placard. It would appear that neither woman fits the description “handicapped.”

So why do they do this? Why do any people do this? Why do they think the rules don’t apply to them? What’s gonna happen when a handicapped driver comes along who needs that space? Should they have to park farther and struggle to make their way to where they’re going because some selfish ass can’t be bothered to park like everyone else? I’d wager these two people in my apartment complex don’t break the rules in the parking lots of stores and supermarkets because they’d be ticketed or towed – or both. So why do they do it when they get home?

What do you think should happen to these people?
