Pat issues Christian fatwa
Pat Robertson declared his unhinged mental state last year by advocating the assassination of socialist Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.
This year, he’s going off the deep end by claiming that God is smiting Ariel Sharon with a stroke because of Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza.
US evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Ariel Sharon’s stroke was divine retribution for “dividing God’s land” of Israel, igniting his latest trademark controversy. As the Israeli prime minister battled for life, Robertson seemed to suggest to viewers on his “700 Club” television show that Sharon was being punished for his policies in Gaza and the West Bank.
“The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, ‘divide my land.’ God considers this land to be his.
“You read the Bible, he says, ‘This is my land.’ And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he’s going carve it up and give it away, God says, ‘No. This is mine.’”
That’s just like the imbiciles who used to say that if you were sick, you must have some sin in your life that God is punishing you for.
And the hatemongers who taunt AIDS victims, saying they “deserve to die” for their sins.
If people got sick because God was angry with their sins, we’d all immediately get brain cancer.
And HIV. And Ebola. And the Hanta virus. All at the same time.
Until blood was pouring out of every orifice.
And then He’d whip a nasty case of diarrhea on us, too. Just to make His point.
I’m glad God doesn’t work like Pat Robertson would like us to believe.
It’s good to see that many are coming out to decry this ugly outburst and declare that Robertson is not a good example of Christianity.
“It is outrageous and shocking, but not surprising, that Pat Robertson once again has suggested that God will punish Israel’s leaders for any decision to give up land to the Palestinians,” said Abraham H. Foxman, national director of the group, which fights anti-Semitism. “His remarks are un-Christian and a perversion of religion. Unlike Robertson, we don’t see God as cruel and vengeful.”
Odd that a Jewish organization makes a statement about what constitutes un-Christian behavior, but he’s right. And Robertson should know better if he was trying to live a Christ-like life. Making such callous remarks doesn’t win people to your cause – which is supposed to be your goal as a minister, right?
Attention, Captain Dumbass: People get sick. People have strokes. They happen for specific reasons (like age, obesity and hypertension). That doesn’t mean God is “out to get them” because he’s displeased with them.
If that were the case, your ignorant, hateful ass would be riding a lightning bolt right about now. Be glad God doesn’t act like you say He does.
