Osama crying uncle?

It appears that Osama Bin Laden’s getting nervous. He’s still talking tough, of course, running off at the mouth about shit like the terrorists supposedly winning in Iraq. But mixed in with the rhetoric is an offer for a “truce with fair conditions .” (h/t: busblog, RightWinged)

The speaker did not give conditions for a truce in the excerpts aired by Al-Jazeera.

“We do not mind offering you a long-term truce with fair conditions that we adhere to,” he said. “We are a nation that God has forbidden to lie and cheat. So both sides can enjoy security and stability under this truce so we can build Iraq and Afghanistan, which have been destroyed in this war.

“There is no shame in this solution, which prevents the wasting of billions of dollars that have gone to those with influence and merchants of war in America,” he said.

There was no immediate confirmation of the tape’s authenticity, although the voice resembled that of bin Laden’s in previous messages.

I wonder if the recent Pakistan airstrikes, which took out several high-level Al Qaeda operatives, have shaken things up a bit. Could be a coincidence. Or could be that they’re getting weaker than they’d like us to know. Fox News is saying “Intel Doesn’t Indicate Attacks,” but we all know how reliable our intelligence has been, don’t we?

This all sounds like a tough guy’s version of a surrender: “If you don’t let us give up, we’ll hurt you.” Should we take ‘em up on it?
