Chirac Threatens a Nuclear Response

zaman.comFrench President Jacques Chirac warned they would use nuclear arms if France is attacked by terrorists.
The French president said his country possesses an independent nuclear power since 1964 and they have the right to use this power to protect the country’s own interests.
France has so far opposed using nuclear power against terrorist groups.
Chirac, in his speech at the Ile Longue nuclear base on Thursday, said nuclear deterrence is the basic guarantee for security “against today’s concerns and tomorrow’s uncertainty.”
He prioritized combat against terrorism, though continued to say defense and security issues will not be restricted solely within this scope, as new threats emerge in an every day changing world.
I’ll admit, I’m among the first to make fun of France’s history of cowardice. But damn, they’re coming out with the kind of position WE should have taken immediately after 9-11 (and sadly didn’t). Frankly, I hope he’s serious about it.
