New York’s union bastids

Posted 21 Dec 2005 in unions

I’m disgusted at the Transit Workers Union/Local 100 of Noo Yawk. They’ve managed to achieve what Al Qaeda could not: they pretty much shut down the city of New York by going on strike.

“This is a fight over dignity and respect on the job, a concept that is very alien to the MTA,” Toussaint said. “Transit workers are tired of being underappreciated and disrespected.”

Fucking get in line, you selfish assholes. There are tons of people who work for a living who feel underappreciated and disrespected. But we don’t take the city hostage to get our way.

Besides, these idiots are striking over the issue of NEW employees (read: people who come after them, not they themselves) will have to retire at 62 rather than the current age of 55. All current union employees still get to retire at 55. Must be nice, eh?

This idiotic strike doesn’t affect me in the slightest, but the idea of a union doing this to the biggest city in America just makes my butt pump peanut butter.

Blogger New York Moments is stuck in the middle of this. And she has a few choice words for those responsible:

I curse the NYCMTA. I curse the Transit Worker’s Union. And I curse all of their families. May famine and pestilence rain down on them and all of their future offspring. I hope they suffer hypothermia on their f*cking picket lines, and I hope the greedy, lying, fatcat MTA b*stards choke on all of the money they’ve been pocketing.

The pieces of sh*t at the MTA have been flaunting some supposed surplus, yet say that they’re going to have to raise fares again next year. B*stards. So the sick f*cks at the union went on strike this morning. During some of the coldest weather of the year, DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON! Sick, sick, sick, insolent b*stards.

She’s describing the ridiculous lengths she’s having to go to in order to get to work. Read her daily rants here and here.

One of the commenters on her blog, stretch, had a great idea:

Lets kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Remember all those displace people from New Orleans that need work? Bring them up here as permanent replacement workers for the MTA. Then those MTA busdrivers and toll booth collectors will have to find honest jobs.

Karol at Alarming News:

I like that people get to see what Unions really are, and what they really do. What private sector employee gets a mandatory 8% non-performancep-based raise each year? What private sector employee has a standard retirement age of 55? How does driving a train or a bus entitle someone to these types of benefits? And then when they don’t get what they demand, they shut the city down and make us look like Paris.

Evan Coyne Maloney:

I do not understand why unions aren’t considered illegal cartels. If I wanted to become a subway train driver, I could not do so without first joining the union, whether I wanted to pay the union dues or not. What’s the difference between that and being forced to pay protection money to the mafia? In either case, the mob or the union “protects” me (or my job), whether I want the protection or not…

Couldn’t have said it better myself. These union thugs are the ugly love child of Al Qaeda and the Mafia, without all the excess back hair.

No wait, scratch that. They’re just like that, back hair and all.
