I started out today talking about Democrats overreacting, based on Malkin’s new book.
I didn’t even get a chance to react to Dems’ threats of filibuster yet. Because we’ve been treated to two more examples of why they shouldn’t be considered a major party in American politics anymore.
“Hunter” over at DailyKos practically blew a gasket today over the recent Alito nomination and subsequent musings in the press:
Oh boy. You’ve just stepped in it now, shitheads. This one’s personal — screw everything else written on this site, and on every other site, about Alito for the time being.See, here’s the thing. I’m Italian American. I’m also an at-this-point-happily-lapsed but still damn respectful Roman Catholic.
And I will be God Damn Fucking Dead And In a Hole In The Fucking Ground before I let you claim “Italian American” OR Roman Catholic as a fucking code phrase for batshit conservative reactionaries whose dismissal of womens’ rights, civil rights, worker rights, and pretty much everything else that has made America great make it clear they think all those things are akin to something they would normally scrape off their shoes.
There’s nothing fucking “Italian American” about being an ultra-far-right conservative jackass. You will not drag my heritage into this like you shoved Alito’s well-groomed hand up Rosa Parks’ corpse, or I will bury you, you loathsome little egg-humping fucker. And unlike most of the victims of your only-like-a-minority-when-they’re-dead corpse huggings, I’m still very much alive.
Yeah, let’s just see a fight between Italian Americans on this one. Let’s him and me fight, is that it? Not gonna happen. I despise Alito because he’s a Scalia-Thomas-Dobson reactionary blowhard so far out of the mainstream that in his mental counties they haven’t even invented the damn telegraph yet, and our shared ethnicity has exactly Zero The Fuck To Do With It. And you goddamn race-baiters know it.
Yeah, cause it’s Republicans and Conservatives who are race-baiters. Sure, that’s it.
You Libs love bashing everyone over the head with political correctness. Until it bites you in your own ass.

The Drudge article “Hunter” references said this:
Before Judge Samuel Alito was even officially announced as President Bush’s next Supreme Court nominee, he met a wave of racial discrimination from numerous corners of the mainstream media and the Democrat Party. Because of Judge Alito’s conservative and Italian-American background he is often been compared to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and has been nicknamed by the mainstream media “Scalito.”This morning, on CNN’s AMERICAN MORNING host Soledad O’Brien said, “we’ve heard the nickname ‘Scalito’…. which is of course combining the Scalia, Justice Scalia and Alito. Let’s talk a little bit about their similarities.”
On CBS’EARLY SHOW host Harry Smith claimed: “[Our next guest] will be on to talk about Alito, who some people are calling ‘Scalito’ because of his close resemblance to Antonin Scalia at least ideologically.”
Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee sent out talking points this morning titled: “Judge ‘Scalito’ Has Long History Of States Rights, Anti-Civil Rights, And Anti-Immigrant Rulings.” More from the DNC’s anti-Italian American talkers: “Alito is often referred to as ‘Judge Scalito’ because of his adherence to Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s right-wing judicial philosophy.”
One outraged Republican strategist claimed, “If Alito were a liberal there would be no way Democrats and Washington’s media elite would use such a ethnically insensitive nickname. Italian-Americans should not have to face these types of derogatory racial slurs in 21st century America.”
See? It’s talking about using the term “Scalito”. And, news flash, Mr. Hunter. Judge Samuel Alito IS Italian-American. So what? You Libs don’t wanna run afoul of your own PC rules, don’t break ‘em.
Then I saw a story on Yahoo describing how Senate Democrats acted like a group of 8-year-olds, closing the doors as they “decried the Republican-led body’s inattention to intelligence failures on Iraq and the leak of a CIA operative’s identity.”
Invoking a little used rule, Democrats temporarily shut down television cameras in the chamber, cleared galleries of reporters, tourists and other onlookers, forced removal of staff members and recording devices and stopped work on legislation.
Read that again. They stopped work on legislation (i.e. doing their jobs) to throw a temper tantrum. Wahhh! It’s just not fair! You’re not cowering before us! We want you to beg on your knees like you used to!! We never agreed to your “illegal and unjust war for oil”, and we want America to like our party again! Wahhhh!!
Welcome to minority party status. You wanna get to the bottom of whatever you think was wrong with the intelligence (that you agreed to before the war), then start by acting like big boys and girls. (h/t: The Real Ugly American)
