Seacrest out. Now Miers out, too.
After weeks of being buffetted by both sides, Harriet Miers has withdrawn her nomination for SCOTUS justice.
Shockeroo.
I just hope that President Bush can (quickly) get another nominee whose qualifications are better suited for the Supreme Court. And it should be a strict constructionist (as promised) with a judicial track record. Someone that conservatives can get behind and support through what will surely be a nasty debate and confirmation process.
And I hope conservatives will remember which side they’re on this time. A lot of us ran too many plays from the Liberal playbook on this one.
There are a lot of good, qualified candidates out there. Let’s hope Bush stumbles across one.

UPDATE
As expected, bloggers are sounding off all over their collective shorts…
LaShawn Barber: “But I predict George Bush will nominate another unqualified person. Perhaps his tailor. Or his dentist. Or his dog walker.”
Captain Ed: “Now can we nominate a candidate whose qualities and track record presumes we control the Senate?”
Power Line: “I feel sorry for Miers; she was caught in a crossfire, and never really had a chance to speak for herself. But what we’ve seen so far may be only a tune-up for what awaits the next nominee.”
Ace Of Spades: “My own reaction: I’m glad the damage has been stopped. This is a bad time for the Bush Administration, and we don’t need a split in the base, the only thing keeping the guy afloat.”
The Anchoress: “So, Harriet is gone, farewell, Harriet! I expect the next time David Frum meets you, or any mutual acquaintance, he will plead, like Tessio in The Godfather, ‘tell the President I always liked him; it was just business.’”
