It takes boobs to save boobs

Believe it or not, this is a blogger-focused fundraiser aimed at helping the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation fund their research. It’s an online gallery of blogger donated boob shots which you can view after making a charitable donation. They raised over $8,000 last year, they’re looking to top $10,000 this year. Read the writeup on Wired.com and then go donate. 2005 official Boobie-Thon site2004 official Boobie-Thon site2003 official Boobie-Thon site2002 official Boobie-Thon site Gives a whole new meaning to titillation, doesn’t it? To Protect and Serve… Themselves

Posted 29 Sep 2005 in disaster

If you watched any of the coverage of the looting that went on after Hurricane Katrina, you probably remember the MSNBC footage which showed a few of New Orleans’ finest brazenly helping themselves in the middle of a Wal-Mart, even while being questioned on the air by a reporter. Well, now we’ve got the official spin from the New Orleans Police Department: Police spokesman Marlon Defillo said police are looking into the possibility that up to 12 officers were involved in misconduct. The Police Department has 1,750 officers. He rejected the use of the term “looting” but said authorities were investigating “the possibility of appropriation of non-essential items during the height of Katrina, from businesses.” Is that anything like...

Rearing its ugly head

Posted 29 Sep 2005 in disaster, racism

During the whole “looters vs finders” hoo-hah that occurred in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I was aggravated that so many folks made such a big deal about the idea of racism. Racism in the coverage, racism in the rescue efforts, and of course, racism in the White House (after all, isn’t that where all evil comes from nowadays?). It’s still a problem, to be sure. But it’s my opinion that racism isn’t nearly as prevalent as some would have us believe. Well, boys and girls, just when I get to feeling like we’re making some baby steps in the direction of a colorblind society, look who mouths off and proves me wrong. Tony’s got the shit on what...

Serenity REVIEW – finally!

Posted 28 Sep 2005 in movies, pop culture

After having last night to ruminate on it, I think I’m better prepared to get into reviewing this movie without revealing too much. But forgive me if I ramble a bit. Although I’ve never seen the show Firefly, the short-lived science fiction series this movie is based on, I still had high expectations. The reviews whetted my appetite for a scifi flick that wasn’t Star Wars, wasn’t Star Trek, and had enough action, character development, and really cool gadgets. All...

Carnival of Moonbattery

Posted 26 Sep 2005 in war, wise quotes

Everyone’s favorite looney got herself arrested during an anti-war protest in Washington, DC. Here’s just a taste of this past weekend’s Carnival of Moonbattery: Getty Images shows pics of the mob of DC protesters. Power Line linked to pics of the some of the battiest out there. Flopping Aces and Media Lies picked up on Sheehan’s tirade about Hurricane Rita stealing the spotlight from her. Even Daily Kos had a few readers who are getting sick of how myopic Sheehan has become. The Mudville Gazette did an interesting contrast between the “Daily Kos Do’s and Don’ts For An Anti-War Rally” and pics of what actually happened at this weekend’s events. Michelle Malkin has many links on the protest shenanigans....

Don’t pick on Cindy Sheehan

She’s just a grieving mother. She’s not a pathetic media whore desperately clinging to her 15 minutes of fame.

An early peek at Serenity

Posted 23 Sep 2005 in movies, pop culture

I was reading the Busblog today (as you all should) and saw a link over to Instapundit about the upcoming sci-fi movie Serenity inviting bloggers to see it for free! I checked it out and, lo and behold, they’re doing a screening here in Dallas on Tuesday!! So by Tuesday evening, you’ll be able to check out an early movie review here. — UPDATE: Here’s the movie synopsis: Joss Whedon, the Oscar® – and Emmy – nominated writer/director responsible for the worldwide television phenomena of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE, ANGEL and FIREFLY, now applies his trademark compassion and wit to a small band of galactic outcasts 500 years in the future in his feature film directorial debut, Serenity. The film...

Political ideology test

Posted 22 Sep 2005 in conservatism, memes, personal

Ok, so I love taking tests and quizzes (especially when it’s not for a grade). Found this one on Ex-Donkey Blog. It was pretty interesting. Fairly accurate. And I loved the way it graphed out the results so you could see the political belief spectrum. I was pleased to see I came out as more of a centrist than I would have originally thought (except it’s confusing that they switched right and left sides on the graph itself). Anyhow, I came much closer to the left than many of you probably would have guessed. Here is the summary as well as the results… You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. You...

Rove’s Dialing For Firings

Posted 22 Sep 2005 in hypocrisy

I’m getting sick of all this. Yesterday at lunch, I read that Karl Rove may have abused his authority (yet again). I don’t yet know all the facts, but it appears that an attorney in the Texas secretary of state office gave out some public information to a reporter concerning a state law. And supposedly, Rove called some official in that office and got the lawyer fired. WTF? This from the same guy who gave out the name of a CIA operative to a reporter, but somehow managed to not get fired. Anyone for a steaming cup of hypocrisy? (I’ll see if I can find some relevant online articles to link on here, but I’ve gotta get to work...

MSM is "Stuck on Stupid"

Posted 21 Sep 2005 in stupidity

Not that it’s any news to anyone with even a modicum of sense. But it was really cathartic to hear someone articulate it. Even with Hurricane Rita bearing down on the Gulf states, some in the press are still hungering for more “here’s where Bush went wrong” stories. When being quizzed by the MSM at a press conference yesterday, General Honore cut through all the partisan crapola and got straight to the heart of the matter: “You are stuck on stupid, I’m not going to answer that question” Check out the video here at Political Teen. What a great quote. Really sums up what’s happening to a lot of folks on both sides of the political fence. But Ex-Donkey...
