The Left gets it wrong, again

DemocratMascot

This week, propaganda and nastiness take another turn for the worse among the far Left. The National Abortion Rights Action League is pulling out all the stops to smear John Roberts and dupe the anti-Bush crowd into hating this latest Supreme Court nominee. They’re running an ad which attempts to tie Roberts to a guy who bombed an abortion clinic, supposedly to draw the conclusion that he would condone such violence because of his religion. The language in the commerical is careful to sidestep that, in keeping with political correctness, of course; replacing the word faith or religion with the word ideology. They all but come out and scream, “Look, John Roberts wants to blow up abortion clinics and rip out your uterus with a back-alley clothes hanger!!”

Clever, very clever. But still wrong.

Before I start on the ad itself, I have a question. Why does the National Abortion Rights Action League choose to be known exclusively by their acronym? The word abortion can’t even be found on their home page. Could it be because they don’t want to be known by the surgical procedure they revere? Instead, they try to put forth the notion that they are “pro-choice”. Sure, they’re for choice, as long as the choice results in a dead, bloody mass of former baby. The pro-life side is dubbed “anti-choice” by these militant abortion fans. Clearly, life isn’t included in the choices they offer. They know they can’t say “pro-abortion”, so they try to demagogue the word choice instead. It’s a good move for them, despicable as it is, and it’s helped to salve the conscience of many people who join their side.

I honestly wonoder, what is it that’s so spiritually soothing about abortion that makes people go crazy to think they might miss an opportunity to butcher a fetus?

NARAL’s website goes even further than their ad, stating: “We have launched a nationwide television ad campaign focusing to John Roberts’ record of siding with violent anti-choice extremists.”

Well, they’re half right. They ARE launching a nationwide television ad focusing on John Roberts. But that’s where the truth ends and their lies start.

Here’s a transcript of the ad:

Narrator: Seven years ago, a bomb destroyed a women’s health clinic in Birmingham, Alabama.

Emily Lyons: “The bomb ripped through my clinic and I almost lost my life. I will never be the same.”

Narrator: Supreme court nominee John Roberts filed court briefs supporting violent fringe groups and a convicted clinic bomber

Emily Lyons: “I am determined to stop this violence, so I am speaking out”

Narrator: Call your senators. Tell them to oppose John Roberts. America can’t afford a justice whose ideology leads him to excuse violence against other Americans.

Let’s dissect the ad itself. There’s an interesting article on factcheck.org about NARAL’s outrageous scare tactics…

NARAL Falsely Accuses Supreme Court Nominee Roberts
Attack ad says he supported an abortion-clinic bomber and excused violence. In fact, Roberts called clinic bombers “criminals” who should be prosecuted fully.

An abortion-rights group is running an attack ad accusing Supreme Court nominee John Roberts of filing legal papers “supporting . . . a convicted clinic bomber” and of having an ideology that “leads him to excuse violence against other Americans” It shows images of a bombed clinic in Birmingham , Alabama .

The ad is false.

And the ad misleads when it says Roberts supported a clinic bomber. It is true that Roberts sided with the bomber and many other defendants in a civil case, but the case didn’t deal with bombing at all. Roberts argued that abortion clinics who brought the suit had no right use an 1871 federal anti-discrimination statute against anti-abortion protesters who tried to blockade clinics. Eventually a 6-3 majority of the Supreme Court agreed, too. Roberts argued that blockades were already illegal under state law.

The images used in the ad are especially misleading. The pictures are of a clinic bombing that happened nearly seven years after Roberts signed the legal brief in question.

Factcheck.org’s article nails the typical dishonesty and underhandedness from the zealots on the extreme Left. Roberts simply argued against the use of an old legal precedent against the scumbag who bombed the clinic, because it didn’t apply. He upheld that the terrorist asshole murderer could and should be convicted under current law. He never defended the guy’s actions. Read the story on Factcheck.org, it clearly spells it out.

Since the ad started running, NARAL is getting some heat over their lies. Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, had to backpedal a little in her soundbite,

“I want to be very clear that we are not suggesting Mr. Roberts condones or supports clinic violence. I’m sure he finds bombings and murder abhorrent. But still his ideological view of the law compelled him to go out of his way to argue on behalf of someone like Michael Bray, who had already been convicted of a string of bombings.”

So she tries to soften NARAL’s image with her words, but their spot still runs unchanged and their website continues to defend it as well.

It’s so sad that the Democrats continue to allow extremists like this to dictate their agenda.
