Patriotic ink

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what I might like my next tattoo to be after I’m finished with my half-sleeve. I’m probably going to get something patriotic. I’ve been wanting to get something that was in honor of those who were needlessly murdered on 9-11 and those who worked so hard and gave their lives to save them.

My original idea for a tattoo was going to be a scroll with a paraphrase of the famous quote from Patrick Henry “Liberty or death” and I wound up changing it to just the word freedom instead. But rather than just in English, I had the word inked in Sanskrit, one of the world’s oldest written languages. I liked the fact that it carried the meaning I wanted, but also had an obscure, artistic quality to it as well. I built the rest of my half-sleeve around that first single word tattoo.

What I may wind up doing is taking the snake design from the Gadsden flag and combining it with some 9-11 words. I don’t know for sure yet.

UPDATE: Here’s my 9/11 tattoo.
