Senator Durbin – darling of Aljazeera

To the idiots defending Senator Durbin and trying to position Bush and America’s military as being torturers (interrogation techniques that involve making the terrorists uncomfortable are NOT the same as torture), let’s see what “the rest of the world” is saying. Specifically, let’s look at what the Arab world is saying about Durbin’s outrageous remarks.

Wednesday evening, Durbin had this to say:

“This administration should apologise to the American people for abandoning the Geneva Conventions and authorising torture techniques that put our troops at risk and make Americans less secure.”

Senator, the only one making Americans less secure are people like yourself, rousing anti-American sentiment around the globe, especially among the Muslims who hate us the most. Your selfish political attacks, especially at a time of war, give encouragement to our enemies and help demoralize our citizens and troops. Especially since your overreactions are taken at face value by those who already want to believe the worst about America. You undermine our efforts to win this war against terrorists just so you can score some political points in the Democrat party.

Besides, since when is it “torture” to adjust the air conditioning in order to make it uncomfortable for a prisoner being questioned? Since when is it “torture” to make them listen to rap music or to Christina Aquilera? Since when is it torture that all the Muslim detainees be housed and fed even better than their American captors? Since when is it torture that their religious beliefs be catered to?

Torture involves inflicting extreme pain. Torture can involve long-term deprivation of food and water. Torture can even involve despicably filthy conditions. None of that is occurring in ANY prison run by the United States. The rape rooms and torture chambers of Saddam Hussein and other despots involved bone-breaking, electrocution, and dismemberment, not the air conditioning and gourmet cuisine offered in Gitmo.

But that doesn’t matter to Dick Durbin. He’s upset that we’re being rough on the terrorists who want to destroy our country and murder every American.

Here’s more detail of what Durbin said on the floor of the U.S. Senate:

“When you read some of the graphic descriptions of what has occurred here—I almost hesitate to put them in the RECORD, and yet they have to be added to this debate. Let me read to you what one FBI agent saw. And I quote from his report: On one occasion, the air conditioning had been turned down so far and the temperature was so cold in the room, that the barefooted detainee was shaking with cold. ….. On another occasion, the [air conditioner] had been turned off, making the temperature in the unventilated room well over 100 degrees. The detainee was almost unconscious on the floor, with a pile of hair next to him. He had apparently been literally pulling his hair out throughout the night. On another occasion, not only was the temperature unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room, and had been since the day before, with the detainee chained hand and foot in the fetal position on the tile floor.

Questioning these illegal combatants involves making them uncomfortable enough so they’ll reveal some vital information about their deadly plans that may save American lives. We won’t resort to torture to get it, but we also won’t get it just by asking nicely. There is a middle ground, and it involves discomfort. And that’s where we are. The whining moonbats need to get over it.
“Awww, we’re making the terrorist murderers cold for 18-24 hours.”
“Awww, we’re making the terrorist murderers hot for 18-24 hours.”
“Awww, we’re making the terrorist murderers listen to loud rap music.”
(why is the NAACP not calling racism on this as a slam against black music?)
It amazes me how fragile some Americans have become, how naive they are. Can Durbin, and others who agree with him, really believe that if we talk nicely to the terrorists, they’ll tell us what we need to know? Or if we let them out of Gitmo, they’ll peacefully go back to their homes and get back to working regular productive jobs?

Dick Durbin, Patrick Leahy, and all the other Bush-haters on the left have no concept of reality unless it fits into their prejudiced view of the current administration and the military.
