Thou shalt not be a dumbass

Have you heard about this one yet?

There’s a Baptist pastor in a small North Carolina church who told his parisoners that anyone who voted for John Kerry would have to leave the church. Now he’s having to leave becase he’s such an intolerant dolt.

(insert sound of The Simpson’s character, Nelson, saying “ha ha!”)

Now, those of you who read here regularly know I have no shortage of disdain for Kerry. But to have a pastor to say that anyone who voted for the man is “ungodly”, that’s a bit much. How is he to know what’s in the hearts of people based only on their vote? I may not agree with someone who voted for Kerry, but that is not the ultimate sin. At least, I’ve never read it in the Bible that way. “Thou shalt not vote for John Kerry. The day thou dost, thou shalt be cast out from the body of believers.” Maybe Rev. Chan Chandler could show me where I missed it.

Chan Chandler? Could his name BE any more annoying?

If he wants to link certain moral & Biblical issues to a candidate, either showing how the man follows God’s teachings, or how the man’s politics go against what God says, then fine. Point it out all day long. But to take it a step further and say “if you vote for this guy or that guy, then you have to leave this church”, that’s just plain ignorant.

Dude, Christians already have enough of an image problem. Doubly so in the south.

As this guy drove away from the church, I can just imagine the sound of Daffy Duck hooting.
