Filibusters, stem cells, and a floppy Iraqi package

There’s been so much going on in the past few days. Last week, I had my two best friends in town. We got together to see the new Star Wars movie, and then had a few days to hang out and socialize. We visited Dallas’ West End (a veritable graveyard) and Deep Ellum (no longer the wild-and-crazy place it used to be due to police crackdown on the high crime). Both places really sucked! Of course, after my friends leave, I find out where all the action is: along Greenville Ave. I gave myself a smack upside the head, a’la the old V-8 commercials. How could I have forgotten that? Oh well, live and learn. On the political scene,...

Revenge of the Lucas

I just got back from seeing Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith. My two friends and I were discussing things we liked, disliked, etc, when we came upon the really heavy-handed political message in the film. There’s a scene where Anakin says “You are either with me, or you’re my enemy,” in a none-too-veiled jab at George Bush’s similar line against terrorism, “You’re either with us or against us in the fight against terror.” Right after Anakin says that, an even more pointed remark comes from Obi-Wan Kenobi in reply, “Only a Sith sees things in absolutes.” Ok, so now he’s set us up to see George Bush as a Sith lord and a master of...

My two best friends are flying in today from out of town. We’ve got tickets to the midnight premiere of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. I’m sure we’ll see plenty of geeks all dressed out like the guy in the picture above. Well, hopefully not quite that bad. For the releases of each of the new SW movies, we’ve always gotten together and gone to the first showing. Twice, I’ve gone to Florida and met them there. This time, we get to meet in Dallas instead. It’ll be nice to see ‘em, especially since we haven’t seen each other in several years. So I probably won’t be blogging as much over the next few days (I...

What’s wrong with this picture?

I was rather taken aback yesterday on my commute home. I drove past a billboard for SBC/Yahoo DSL which was completely in Vietnamese. Talk about doing a double-take. Vietnamese, as written in English characters, has lots of unusual punctuation marks, so it really jumps out as unsual. I was curious so I did a search to see if it was, in fact, Vietnamese. And in doing so I came upon the billboard you see at the head of this article. It kinda ticked me off, and here’s why. First off, there’s the whole issue of bad taste in saying that L.A. is once again a part of Mexico. That’s just plain wrong, and it actually caused a bit of...

Nice going, Newsweek!

So last week, Newsweek apparently ran an anti-American story that has resulted in riots across Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Gaza that ended in 16 deaths and over 100 injuries. All because they decided to print an unsubstantiated rumor that American interrogators had flushed a copy of the Q’uran down the toilet in an attempt to get a terrorist to talk. Way to go, dumbasses. Of course, now that their biased crap has caused so much violence and death, they’re backing away from their story. Not retracting it, mind you. But admitting they had the facts all wrong. And their one source admitted he never really saw the event, just that he may have heard about it. Nice journalism. Real...

Thou shalt not be a dumbass

Have you heard about this one yet? There’s a Baptist pastor in a small North Carolina church who told his parisoners that anyone who voted for John Kerry would have to leave the church. Now he’s having to leave becase he’s such an intolerant dolt. (insert sound of The Simpson’s character, Nelson, saying “ha ha!”) Now, those of you who read here regularly know I have no shortage of disdain for Kerry. But to have a pastor to say that anyone who voted for the man is “ungodly”, that’s a bit much. How is he to know what’s in the hearts of people based only on their vote? I may not agree with someone who voted for Kerry, but...

Where the Islamofascists could actually do some good…

Jerry Hobbs is the latest scumbag in the news, arrested for stabbing his 8-year-old daughter to death, along with her 9-year-old friend. He stabbed them in the neck and eyes with a paring knife. Take a moment and read that again. It’s enough to make me wanna be sick, just hearing about something so horrendous. I can’t imagine what could be wrong with someone to cause them to do that to another human being, let alone to their own child. And it really makes me question the sanity of our criminal justice system because this nutbag was just recently released from prison for chasing people around with a chainsaw! A freakin’ chainsaw! Where the fuck was CPS in this...

What choice?

Posted 10 May 2005 in Democrats, hypocrisy, liberals

Libs in the media are still crapping in their collective pants about Bush’s plan to fix Social Security. And the Dems, who were all for fixing Social Security just a few short years ago, are now lining up to gut the reforms before the American people can have a chance to understand it. You can choose to invest SOME of your money in a private account. Or, you can choose to keep things the way they are. Nobody is talking about forcing everyone to participate in private accounts. It would be an individual’s choice. Hrmmm, choice. I thought that was part of the liberal mantra. But in a typical fit of hypocrisy, libs don’t want you to have a...

Today I found this pic of newly elected Pope Benedict XVI. Now, I know we all have weird, embarrassing photos of ourselves floating around out there, but this one kinda freaked me out since it’s the new leader of the Catholic church. Makes me wonder, was this at some kinda freaky party where he was telling a joke, or was he perhaps making a point during a sermon? Or maybe casting out the spawn of Satan? I have no clue. Someone caption this photo…
