Fostering homophobia
What the hell is the Texas legislature thinking? I heard about this last week, but got distracted before I could rant about it. They’re pushing legislation which would require changes in the state’s Child Protective Services (a Gestapo-esque group I’m not too fond of as it is) which would eliminate gays or bisexuals from being allowed as foster parents.
“It is our responsibility to make sure that we protect our most vulnerable children, and I don’t think we are doing that if we allow a foster parent that is homosexual or bisexual,” said Republican Rep. Robert Talton, who introduced the amendment.
What does he think he’s protecting our “most vulnerable” children from? Does this ignorant fuck think that as long as someone is heterosexual, that’ll make ‘em a good foster parent? Yeah, I’m sure the statistics will bear that out. There’s never been a case of a foster father molesting or raping a little girl in his care. Nope. Especially not in Texas. And no hetero would be drinking or doing drugs in front of a kid. No, heterosexuals would NEVER do something like that. Only the damn queers, right?
Excuse me, but what the FUCK’S business is it of the Texas state government what one’s sexual preference is, especially as it relates to someone’s suitability to be a foster parent?!! We have millions of kids around the country who need a good loving home, one where they will be raised to be good citizens who will respect themselves and others around them. Anyone stable who can fit that bill should be allowed to help children in need. Just because Talton has a hangup about homosexuality doesn’t mean that gays or bisexuals can’t make good foster parents.
Check out what a fair-minded guy he is in this story. A man willing to propose legislation that affects so many people’s lives should at least have the decency to discuss it, even if an agreement can’t be reached.
Besides, just how many homosexuals are signing up to be foster parents, anyway?
