Hostage freed, then shot

I was just writing about this story, and happened across an update. I was excited to hear that Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena was freed by the terrorists today. But apparently, as she was rushed to safety, her vehicle was fired upon by US troops, wounding her and killing an Italian secret service agent in the car with her.

What the hell is going on over there?

For some unknown reason, the Islamic lunatics decided to release Sgrena with her head still attached. And then OUR troops shoot at her car? The story I read says the vehicle was speeding toward one of our checkpoints. That is a bit scary/suspicious from the perspective of the soldier who has no idea who’s in the car. But damn. This just sucks.
