SpongeBob GayPants?
WTF is up with James Dobson and Focus On The Family? Normally I don’t have much of a problem with them, but apparently they’ve got a problem with SpongeBob.
US conservative groups are up in arms over a music video featuring children’s TV heroes such as the cheerful cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.
Focus on the Family and other groups say the video – a remake of the Sister Sledge hit, We Are Family – is a vehicle for pro-gay propaganda.
I just don’t get it. Admittedly, I haven’t seen the video in question (there’s a good article with more detail about the video here). Maybe it’s got SpongeBob going down on Patrick or something. Maybe Squidward takes it in the cornhole. I dunno. But unless this video has stuff like that in it, I don’t see how it could be construed as an “insidious” way of “brainwashing” kids.

Just because some gay men have chosen to like SpongeBob because he freakin’ HOLDS HANDS with his buddy Patrick (Oh holy shit! A guy touching another guy! He must be GAY!!!) doesn’t mean that the character himself is gay or promoting a homosexual lifestyle. Geez!! If you’ve seen the cartoon at all, you know that SpongeBob is a very simple child-like guy. That’s his charm. He’s an innocent. And his friend Patrick is just as oblivious. But the sweet lesson that the show teaches is that it’s not bad to be innocent. You don’t have to be a mean badass in order to “win” in life.
Maybe if more people were willing to hold hands, there’d be a lot less hate and killing going on.
