Religion of Peace update: Honor killings?

Honor killings? The phrase conjures up images of two guys duelling over a disagreement, with the intent being the offended party is defending his honor against some allegation or insult. (That’s already ridiculous, as nobody can besmirch your honor. Only you can do that.) But today, we have people murdering their family members as part of the renowned Religion of Peace™. This has nothing to do with honor. It’s horrific evil. Nazir Ahmed appears calm and unrepentant as he recounts how he slit the throats of his three young daughters and their 25-year old stepsister to salvage his family’s “honor” — a crime that shocked Pakistan. The 40-year old laborer, speaking to The Associated Press in police detention as he...

Illegal aliens suck

Posted 29 Dec 2005 in crime, illegal immigration

I saw this over on Anti-Strib and it reminded me of the recent murder of a police officer by an illegal alien here in Dallas. An illegal strikes again. Reynaldo Elias Rapalo, an illegal from Honduras, was captured today in southwest Miami. Guess what he was wanted for? Oh, let’s see. Escaping from a Miami jail. Why was he in jail? For raping three young girls in the Little Havana and Shenandoah neighborhoods. This has to stop. Here are three more crimes that didn’t have to happen. and this one, too… This is a particularly disgusting alien, for many reasons. Hailing from Hidalgo, Mexico, Genero Espinosa Dorantes not only is involved with helping transport illegals across the border from...

Camp Katrina

Posted 28 Dec 2005 in disaster, military

Hey folks, here’s a new blog you should check out. It’s called Camp Katrina. It’s nice to see some first-hand accounts of the good our military is doing. Go read a bit and help spread the good word about the humanitarian work of our military. Like the tagline says on their masthead, they do more than “kill people and break things.”

Thank A Soldier week

Have you heard about Thank A Soldier Week? The Mudville Gazette has a good post about it, featuring the words of Congressman Joe Wilson. Here’s just a portion of the letter, check Mudville’s post to read the whole thing. (h/t: The Ugly American) As a member of Congress, I have had the unique opportunity to visit your battlefields and witness your many successes. Each week, you are capturing terrorists, rebuilding communities, and giving people around the world the chance to experience opportunities that only exist in free nations. Although the media rarely reports your victories, I strongly believe that the American people recognize that you are making tremendous progress. The threat of terrorism is not temporary and your service...

Saddam, the lost Stooge

Posted 22 Dec 2005 in Iraq

As you may have read yesterday, Saddam Hussein is now claiming he’s been beaten by his American captors. (h/t: Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler) “Yes, I have been beaten, everywhere on my body. The marks are still there,” Saddam told the court after sitting quietly listening to testimony. “And I’m not complaining about the Americans because I can poke their eyes with my own hands.” Yeah, ok. You’re gonna go all Three Stooges on their asses. Woob woob woob, hiiii-yaaaa!! Ooh, I bet they’re quaking in their combat boots. So now we’ve got Saddam Hussein claiming he’s a victim of torture. Hang on, lemme check something real quick. Nope, sorry. We don’t give a fuck, Saddam. And if you had been beaten...

Why politics are off the table at Christmas dinner

Here’s a good back-and-forth I saw over at Hector Vex’s blog; an email mini-war between his father and his second cousin over this Patriot Act/spying hullabaloo. First, his father sounded off on Bush’s actions: “If I understand the President correctly, it is ok to tap our phones without a court order. I know, they are only tapping phone calls of suspected terrorist – THEN GET A COURT ORDER! It seems to me that tapping a phone, without a court order is a far more serious offense then tapping an intern. I know, getting a court is TOO slow, a real inconvience when breaking the law. Very few pleas for a court order are ever denied (only 18 of 18,00...

I’m excited to annouce being the recipient of the prestigious TonyP award (am I wrong to capitalize that?) in the 2005 Offline Adventures Blog Awards. Unsomnambulist, a distinguished and frequent commenter here, has bestowed me with the award for “Blogger Who Most Inspired Me To Write.” Being that I’m just a newbie at this myself, I’m humbled to have inspired anyone else to write. Thanks! I’m just bummed I didn’t get “Sexiest Blogger.”

New York’s union bastids

Posted 21 Dec 2005 in unions

I’m disgusted at the Transit Workers Union/Local 100 of Noo Yawk. They’ve managed to achieve what Al Qaeda could not: they pretty much shut down the city of New York by going on strike. “This is a fight over dignity and respect on the job, a concept that is very alien to the MTA,” Toussaint said. “Transit workers are tired of being underappreciated and disrespected.” Fucking get in line, you selfish assholes. There are tons of people who work for a living who feel underappreciated and disrespected. But we don’t take the city hostage to get our way. Besides, these idiots are striking over the issue of NEW employees (read: people who come after them, not they themselves) will...

Big Brother’s doing just fine, thank you

The Dems are all in an uproar about Bush’s approval of the NSA spying on Americans communicating with known terrorists overseas? Did the Democrats create a fuss when Clinton authorized a little FBI program called Carnivore which was used to monitor American email? And that wasn’t wartime, mind you. It was just the government spying as a matter of course (and often times, just to dig up dirt on political adversaries). The Clinton-era NSA also “monitored millions of private phone calls placed by U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries under a super secret program code-named Echelon.” “If you made a phone call today or sent an e-mail to a friend, there’s a good chance what you said...

Worst Christmas ornament/decoration?

Posted 19 Dec 2005 in humor

As we close in on Christmas, I’m getting into the spirit. So I love seeing how other people celebrate Christmas, Hannukah, Kwanzaa and whatever other holidays that all hit during this month. Couch has a fun tradition: Every year the boyfriend and I search far and wide for THE worst Christmas decoration we can possibly find. The decoration be just ordinarily bad, it has to be awful, so awful and so nonsensical that it calls out to us, yearning for a spot in our horrifically tacky decorations collection. The goal is to one day accumulate enough decorations that we can have a tree full of hilarious/absurd decorations from throughout the years. It’s really a celebration of our humor. This...
